A senior professor at Dhaka University (DU) has been relieved from all academic and administrative duties indefinitely following his arrest over allegations of sexually harassing several male students.
The accused, Professor Dr. Ershad Halim of the Chemistry Department, was arrested on Thursday night after multiple students filed formal complaints describing severe misconduct and coercion.

According to DU authorities:

The Chemistry Department Academic Committee forwarded a proposal recommending action.

The Dean of the Faculty of Science reviewed the complaints.

The recommendation reached the Vice-Chancellor, who approved the decision to remove the professor from duty until further notice.
Two separate complaint letters were submitted, each reportedly signed by 8–9 students.

Students submitted written complaints and also spoke at a press conference at the Dhaka University Journalists’ Association on Thursday night.
The complaints include allegations that the professor:

Some students alleged repeated incidents and mentioned that exam-related issues were used as leverage.

The accused professor was arrested by police from his Shewrapara residence around 11 PM on Thursday.
