BNP Promises to Prioritize Nationalization of MPO-Listed Educational Institutions if Elected

Dhaka, October 2025 — BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday assured that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will give top priority to the nationalization of MPO-listed educational institutions if it returns to power in the next national election.

The assurance came during a meeting with the leaders of the Jatiyakaran Andolon Oikya Jote (Nationalization Movement Unity Alliance) at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan around 1pm.

🎙️ Fakhrul’s Commitment to Teachers

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, alliance Member Secretary Delwar Hossain Azizi said that Mirza Fakhrul’s “cordial attitude and patient hearing” gave teachers renewed hope.

“If BNP comes to power, the long-standing demand of teachers to nationalize non-government educational institutions will be implemented,” Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, emphasizing the party’s commitment to improving the education sector and ensuring fair treatment for teachers under MPO (Monthly Pay Order) schemes.

💬 Teachers’ Demands Discussed in Detail

During the meeting, the BNP Secretary General reportedly spoke over the phone with the party’s finance adviser to discuss the teachers’ proposals, focusing on the financial feasibility and implementation process.

Delwar Hossain Azizi said their delegation proposed a 20% increase in house rent allowance as an immediate step, noting that other demands could be addressed gradually once BNP forms the government.

He added that the BNP leader showed genuine interest in resolving the issue and his positive response gave their movement “new inspiration.”

🕒 A Hopeful Meeting

The one-hour discussion was described as productive and encouraging, with the alliance leaders expressing satisfaction over BNP’s sincerity and willingness to engage directly with educators.

Azizi stated that the delegation highlighted the long-standing struggles of teachers working at non-government institutions, who have been advocating for nationalization for years. The alliance hopes BNP’s assurance will translate into policy action if the party comes to power.

📚 Background

Teachers under the MPO system receive government financial support, but their institutions remain non-governmental. Full nationalization has been a key demand of educators seeking job security, better pay, and equal benefits with their counterparts in public institutions.

The BNP’s latest promise adds momentum to this movement ahead of the upcoming general elections, reflecting growing political attention to education sector reforms.
