The Ministry of Education has decided to continue the lottery-based admission system for the 2026 academic year in both government and non-government secondary schools across Bangladesh.
The decision was finalized on Wednesday (October 29) during a meeting chaired by Rehana Parveen, Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education.
🏢 Meeting Overview
Senior officials from the Secondary-1 and Secondary-2 wings, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), and various Education Boards attended the meeting.
Following the meeting, Prof. Dr. Khondoker Ehsanul Kabir, Chairman of the Dhaka Education Board, informed the media that —
“After reviewing all relevant aspects, it has been decided to retain the lottery system for student admissions this year as well. The official announcement will be made soon.”
📣 Background of the Decision
Before the meeting, on Monday (October 27), the Bangladesh Government Secondary Teachers’ Association (BASMASIS) had submitted a written proposal to the ministry, requesting the reinstatement of admission tests instead of the lottery system.
However, on the same day, the Parents Unity Forum issued a statement supporting the lottery-based admission system.
According to the forum,
“The lottery-based admission process ensures transparency, accountability, and relieves young students from the unnecessary pressure of admission coaching.”
📆 What This Means for 2026 Admissions
The decision ensures that all public and private schools under the Secondary and Higher Education Division will admit students through a centralized online lottery system.
This system aims to:
-
Prevent unfair selection or political influence in admissions.
-
Promote transparency and equal opportunity for all students.
-
Reduce the financial and emotional stress of entrance coaching.
The official circular, application timeline, and lottery schedule will be published soon on the Ministry of Education and Dhaka Education Board websites.
