DU Extends Torongo Bus Route to Basila, Expressway Toll Waived for Students | BD Result Online

Dhaka University (DU) has announced several important transportation facilities for students, including the extension of the Torongo bus route up to Basila and the waiver of expressway toll fees for student commuters. The announcements were officially made by leaders of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) at a press conference held on Thursday at the DUCSU hall.

These initiatives aim to reduce daily commuting difficulties and financial pressure on students, particularly those traveling from distant areas of the capital.

Torongo Bus Route Extended to Basila

According to DUCSU Transport Secretary Asif Abdullah, the extension of the Torongo bus route is part of the commitments outlined in DUCSU’s election manifesto. As part of this initiative:

  • Two additional trips have been added to the Torongo bus service
  • The route has been extended beyond Basila Bridge to the next stoppage
  • The service officially started on Thursday
  • Regular operations will begin from next week during morning and evening hours

This expansion is expected to significantly benefit DU students living in Basila and nearby areas by improving accessibility and reducing travel time.

Expressway Toll Fees Waived for Students

DUCSU leaders also announced a major relief for students using buses that travel via the expressway. Previously, students had to pay toll fees when university buses used the expressway to avoid heavy traffic congestion.

Asif Abdullah confirmed that:

  • The expressway toll fee for students has been completely waived from Thursday
  • The toll cost will now be covered by the Dhaka University transport office
  • The decision was taken following discussions based on long-standing student demands

This step is expected to reduce daily transportation expenses for hundreds of students.

Saturday Bus Service to Start Soon

DUCSU Vice President Shadik Kayem stated that accountability and transparency to students remain the union’s top priority. As part of fulfilling student demands, DUCSU has also taken steps to launch Saturday bus services.

Key updates include:

  • Necessary funds for Saturday bus operations have already been collected
  • The service is expected to begin very soon
  • This initiative responds to a long-standing demand from students who attend classes or academic activities on Saturdays.

Additionally, DUCSU plans to hold a detailed press conference soon to present a full report on activities carried out over the past four months.

Student-Friendly Transport Initiatives at DU

The recent decisions reflect Dhaka University’s and DUCSU’s efforts to improve:

  • Affordable transportation for students
  • Safe and time-efficient commuting
  • Responsiveness to student concerns

These initiatives are expected to positively impact daily campus life and strengthen trust between students and the student union.
